PRC’s Goldway Tells What Was Behind the Exigency Decision

On December 24, 2013, the Postal Regulatory Commission approved an exigent increase that shot postal rates up 6% and sent direct mail marketers and their accountants back to their strategic models and financial forecasts to remake plans for 2014. Mailers had hoped the PRC would soften the blow with a lower percentage increase and were disappointed by the Commission’s ultimate decision to give USPS the rate it asked for.To learn more about what was behind the PRC’s decision, Direct Marketing News spoke with Commission Chairman Ruth Goldway.

Exception Process for USPS Jan 26 Requirements

From the USPS:

New prices and mail preparation changes go into effect on January 26, 2014. As a reminder, the current exception process is in place for mailers and software providers unable to comply with the new preparation requirements.

Mailers should forward their exception requests to their Manager of Business Mail Entry. The letter should describe what mail preparation requirements cannot be met, the reason why you cannot comply by January 26, and the amount of time needed for compliance. District Business Mail Entry Offices can be found at: https://ribbs.usps.gov/locators/find-bme.cfm.

Software providers should forward their exception requests to the PCSC. The letter should describe what mail preparation requirement you are unable to comply with, the reason why you cannot comply by January 26, and the amount of time needed for compliance. The exception request letters should be emailed toPCSC@usps.gov or faxed to (212) 330.5320
