From a USPS Industry Alert

HOLIDAY MOBILE SHOPPING PROMOTION:

REGISTRATION OPENS TOMORROW!

As a reminder, registration for the Holiday Mobile Shopping Promotion opens tomorrow, September 15, 2012.   Participants from the Mobile Commerce and Personalization Promotion who are interested in participating in the Holiday Mobile Shopping Promotion will need to register again on the Incentive Programs Service within the Business Customer Gateway.  Mail Service Providers who register for the Holiday Promotion will still be able to use the auto-enrollment feature to enroll their customers.

Program dates for the Holiday Mobile Shopping Promotion are November 7 – 21, 2012. The promotion is designed to show that the combination of direct mail and mobile technology is a convenient way for consumers to do their holiday shopping. Timed to start  just before Thanksgiving, this promotion will help merchants put mobile-optimized offers, product descriptions, and advertised savings into consumers’ hands in time for Cyber Week — the busiest online shopping period of the year. And this year, a record number of shoppers are expected to make purchases using mobile devices.

Registration for promotions and incentives can be made through our web portal for USPS® business services: http://gateway.usps.com.

More information about the Holiday Mobile Shopping Promotion is available on RIBBS at https://ribbs.usps.gov/index.cfm?page=mobilebarcode#bcg

USPS Hawks It, but Doesn’t Back It Up

Seriously?  Talk about mixed messages!

See below, the USPS added this program to their pricing page late this afternoon.

Note the asterisk.  And the disclaimer.  What an endorsement…

Farewell to Courier Express and Postal Observer

without comments

In messages to his Twitter followers last night, respected postal commentator Alan Robinson announced that he will be shutting down his Courier Express and Postal Observer blog tomorrow.

“Courier Express and Postal Observer will come to end on September 15th as I am not renewing my hosting agreement,” he wrote. “Wish everyone who works on #USPS issues well as I am done for now. I have to take care of myself and writing takes too much time.”

via Dead Tree Edition: Farewell to Courier Express and Postal Observer.

I can’t find the words to express what a huge loss this is to the postal community at large.  I have long looked to this resource to learn about Postal, blog writing, and the written word in general.  I too, like Mr. Tree, will be immediately feeling the void left by Alan Robinson’s departure.  I owe a debt of gratitude for what he has shared.  Farewell, and adieu…
