MTAC Irony – An Observation

without comments

New MTAC landing page at RIBBS

A new landing page for the Mailer’s Technical Advisory Committee has been launched at RIBBS, linked above.  The new page is cleaner, with organized areas of information.  Focus group presentations and notes are to be posted at this page.

Ironic observation, there is access to the old layout via a”MTAC Classic” link.  I suspect that even if the new layout is easier, better, faster, there will still be a group of MTAC Classics that prefer the MTAC Classic view.  🙂   Even that view was new at one point…change is inevitable.

Picture Permit Imprint Indicia

without comments

A good idea – badly implemented.  Industry feedback was provided last week at MTAC.  Hopefully some of these requirements will be relaxed once the impact to program participation is clear.

A new informational site regarding the Picture Permit Imprint Indicia has been launched here:

This program was suggested as a way to increase the value of mail, keep mail in the mail stream, and and new mail to the mail stream.  Marketing can use the added creative space in a multitude of eye catching ways.

That was the good news.

Here is the bad news:

1) Somewhere along the line, the USPS decided to add a charge.

2) Some draconian program requirements…specifically,
once your PDF design copy is approved, you must submit exact mailpiece samples.  500 of them, for USPS testing.  The punch line there?  The tests take approximately 30–45 days.

3) After you’ve passed these tests, the USPS will request a mailing schedule, including dates and volumes.

So, if you are planning a 4th of July promotion using Picture Permit Imprints, you needed to submit samples yesterday.  Or last week.

…217 Days until Christmas, better get going.
