Tentative USPS Promos for 2013

without comments

This fall, the USPS will be submitting requests for some promos, similar to the Moblie Commerce Promo that is taking place in July and August of this year.  At that time, in response to industry requests for more advance notice on the promos, they will be sharing a calendar of promos for 2013.  Tom Foti, USPS Manager of Direct Mail and Periodicals, shared some information during his presentation at the IDEAlliance conference earlier this week:

(note these are tentative, not final, not set in stone!!)

> Spring (February/March time frame) – The USPS is considering a Coupon promotion, possibly with a mobile redemption component

>Summer (May-July time frame) – Reply Mail promotion.  This would possibly include a credit based on number of reply pieces returned.

>Fall (August/September time frame) – Technology promo.  Still detail to be worked out.  Suggestions welcome.

>Winter (November/December time frame)  – Mobile barcode promo, phase III.

In addition, there was discussion about Standard Mail seasonal pricing, with a discount or different pricing levels (one way of looking at it is paying a premium to mail in the Fall vs the slower winter, spring, summer seasons) to encourage volume during traditioanlly slower times.

The USPS also said it is looking at seasonal two-tier pricing for Standard Mail, with one level of pricing for spring, summer and winter, and a second level of pricing available in the fall to help generate volume during the lighter mailing seasons.

Service Standard Changes Coming This Month

without comments

I am just back from the IDEAlliance conference in San Antonio.  The conference was well attended by all facets of the mail supply chain, and the USPS. I’ll be posting a series of information bytes that were shared at the conference…

Starting with – The USPS will be publishing the final service standard changes before the end of this month, May.  These changes will take effect in July 2012.  The USPS will not be closing massive amounts of facilities.  The word used was Centralization, without actually closing facilities.

Also coming with this announcement will be release of an updated 3Digit Zip list.  The USPS may be moving  3Digit (not 5s) zip from one SCF are to another, so this information is important to drop ship mailers and transportation companies.  This info will be included in the lableling lists.

There will be some centralization activity over the summer, including possible CET Critical Entry Time changes, and expansion of the availablilty of FAST drop ship appointments.

Additional network changes will start happening again in January 2013.
