How effective is direct mail? The Direct Marketing Association figures that only 1.4 percent of households took action as a result of a mailing. But that’s better than the response rate for email, which was about 0.62 percent in 2010, according to the DMA.

As your organization makes its 2012 marketing plans, direct mail might be worth putting back on the list, especially if you’re interested in seeing the U.S. Postal Service live on. As competitive new services emerge design with the small business in mind, it could be the “closer” for some of your electronic campaigns.
