USPS releases list of post offices to be considered for closing – postalnews blog

“Today, more than 35 percent of the Postal Service’s retail revenue comes from expanded access locations such as grocery stores, drug stores, office supply stores, retail chains, self-service kiosks, ATMs and usps.com, open 24/7,” said Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe. “Our customer’s habits have made it clear that they no longer require a physical post office to conduct most of their postal business.”

This step is needed, and can be done positively.  Everyone needs to compromise, and adjust to doing things differently.

New USPS Website

without comments

If you have pages at usps.com bookmarked, you will need to check the links.  I have several usps.com pages I monitor for changes using www,changedetection.com, those have all failed this week and needed updating.

For example:

Old Link = http://www.usps.com/prices/
New Link = Well, I can’t find anything that has all the prices on one page.  Will have to use the Ratefold at Postal Explorer.

Old Link = http://www.usps.com/serviceperformance/welcome.htm
New Link = http://about.usps.com/what-we-are-doing/service-performance/welcome.htm

The new website is cleaner, clearer, and has a more modern feel.  Like any change, it will take some getting used to, but it should be easier for the general public to use in the long run.

This is going to get interesting.  In the past week, I have attended meetings where it is clear that Mr. Galaher will be a voice to be reckoned with.  Bob brings a unique perspective and is quite possibly the key person with the best grasp on both USPS and industry needs – and the comon sense to implement programs in a way that can actually be successful.
