Modification of CASS Requirement to Show Suite Number

without comments

From the DMM Advisory on Friday:

Modification of CASS Requirement to Show Suite Number-

The SuiteLink® product enables customers to provide improved business addressing information by adding known secondary (suite) information to business addresses, which allows USPS® automated delivery sequencing where it would not otherwise be possible.

Beginning August 1, 2011, the Postal ServiceTM is modifying a previously-announced CASSTM Cycle N requirement. Mailers will not be required to show the suite number returned by SuiteLink on the mailpiece to qualify for an automation price, but instead, mailers may generate a delivery point barcode derived by incorporating the suite number indicated by SuiteLink.

This modification also applies to MASSTM-certified equipment and removes the requirement for the suite number to be sprayed above the barcode.

For additional information on the use of SuiteLink, and to view a flow chart developed to illustrate SuiteLink processing, please visit RIBBS under Move Update/SuiteLink/SuiteLink Announcements/2011 Announcements.

Bookmark – Pub 32, Glossary of Postal Terms

without comments

This is a handy reference of postal terms, abbreviations, and acronyms (numerous). It is relatively updated as of April 2011. Worth a bookmark, and good to have when trying to frame terminology for a client or for internal reasons.

From the intro:
Publication 32, Glossary of Postal Terms, first appeared in 1974, and has been updated several times since then to reflect the introduction of new products and services, as well as advances in mail processing and delivery operations. The current edition is the result of a yearlong effort by subject matter experts from every function within the Postal Service. These experts added hundreds of new entries, including terms related to the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006. Many existing terms were also updated when appropriate. Most obsolete terms were deleted, but some that might still appear in print were retained and cross-referenced to the current term.
