PostalOne! BSA Agreement Changes

Per the DMM Advisory,  BSA Business Services Administrator – The USPS® has revised the online agreement which describes the terms and conditions for the use of USPS computing systems and Business Customer Gateway online services. Existing Business Services Administrators (BSAs) will be required to accept the new agreement between November 1 and December 15, 2010, in order to maintain access to Business Customer Gateway services.

Chicago in October – Graph Expo

FAST Help Desk

Beginning on August 30, 2010, FAST will have a dedicated 24/7 Help Desk

The help desk will provide both operational and application support, with escalation options.

Local dock issues, such as trucks waiting to offload, will receive a ticket number and be tracked.  Don’t hang up without a ticket number, unless your issue was resolved on the call.

USPS wants former CFO to explain himself

The USPS doesn’t appear to be pleased that its former Chief Financial Officer Mike Riley testified on behalf of the NALC in opposition to the service’s plan to eliminate Saturday delivery. It has filed interrogatories with the PRC asking that Riley back up some of his opinions with “analyses and studies”. For example: Riley stated that elimination of Saturday delivery “would also send a signal to customers that their needs and preferences no longer matter to the Postal Service.”

While the questions are par for the course in rate setting deliberations, they are somewhat ironic given the USPS admissions in the exigent rate case last week that it had no specific analyses or studies to back up its own assertions on the price sensitivity of first class mail or the health of the periodicals industry.

USPS Innovation – Ideas Welcome

Last week at MTAC I had the opportunity to participate in the Innovation Symposium hosted by the USPS to suggest creative new business ideas for the Postal Service.  The USPS will be holding a second symposium in October, and also soliciting ideas from the local Postal Customer Council participants.

There was a tremendous outpouring of participation and some terrific suggestions came out of the symposium.  It is important to note that this is not the only venue for making suggestions to the USPS.  They have a very open-door policy as far as receiving suggestions.  If anyone has any ideas they would like presented, let me know and I can advise you on the best path to take to get your ideas heard.

Outside of the symposium, I wanted to share with you some excellent, inexpensive suggestions having to do with utilization of the existing USPS Post Office and delivery fleet infrastructure.  Take a look at what thinking outside of the regular status-quo can look like:

National PCC Day September 15

Postal Customer Councils across the nation will offer workshops and an opportunity to earn a professional certificate as part of National PCC Day activities. About 200 PCCs are expected to host events at more than 150 sites, with mailer education an important component.

The national PCC team is providing two workshops in support of National PCC Day events. They are:

  • Best Kept Secrets of the NCSC — Learn how the National Customer Support Center (NCSC) enables customers to better manage the quality of their mail lists. NCSC provides customers information on quality addressing, Move Update, change of address, Intelligent Mail barcode and other postal products and services.
  • Business Customer Gateway — Hear how the Business Customer Gateway gives you a single, unified landing point to access the online business offerings from the Postal Service.

Mailers who attend local PCC events also can earn a Quality Addressing and Mailing Insight Professional Certificate. To qualify for the certificate, PCC attendees must be present for Postmaster General John Potter’s satellite broadcast and they must attend both workshops listed above as well as one other mail-related workshop presented by the local PCC that day.

The National PCC Day broadcast featuring Potter begins at noon ET and is hosted by the Greater Portland PCC, the winner of the 2009 PCC of the Year Award for a large market. During the broadcast, the Postal Service will announce its 2010 PCC Premier Award winners and the Communication and Excellence Award winners.

USPS – National Mail Service Updates LA NDC

On Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, the Los Angeles NDC will be closed for one day only. The closure is due to work on the facility that includes shutting down electrical power.

* Only a hand full of maintenance engineers will be on-site during that time.

* Systems start-up will begin sequentially after 5 p.m. on Aug. 23 and will take a few hours to complete.

* All mail processing types — parcels, bundles, trays, sacks and bedloads — are affected.

* FAST appointment slots will be adjusted to avoid PVDS appointments Aug. 23. Options for drop-ship mail entry are:

o Saturday, Aug. 21 — expanded appointment slots

o Sunday, Aug. 22 — expanded appointment slots

o Tuesday, Aug 24 — expanded appointment slots

DNDC mailings cannot be diverted to other Los Angeles processing centers. ZIP codes served by the Los Angeles NDC for destinating mail are: 889-891, 893, 900-908, 910-928 and 930-935.

USPS SUGGESTS MAILERS PLAN THEIR PRODUCTION AND LOGISTICS AT THE LA NDC ON AUG. 23 AS THOUGH THAT DAY WAS A USPS HOLIDAY.
